Colborne Legion Receives Silver Cross Donation

Colborne Legion President John Ton and 2nd Vice-President Bill Chisholm were on hand today to receive a donation of a Silver Cross. Lucia Herwig presented the medal on behalf of the estate of the late Comrade Lucille Moore Ferguson. Ms Ferguson was the niece of Private Earl Chancey Moore (top right) who died at Vimy Ridge on May 8, 1917. Ms. Herwig was executor and family friend of Lucille Ferguson.

Pte. Moore was born June 27, 1897 to Andrew and Amanda Moore of Cramahe Township. He enlisted at Cobourg on January 29, 1916 into the 139th Overseas Battalion. He was with the 28th Battalion Canadian Infantry (Saskatchewan Regiment) when he died.

Honours & Awards May 6th

Our annual opportunity to thank deserving members of the branch and the community for their service took place on Saturday, May 6th

Those in attendance enjoyed a lovely buffet by Black Dress Catering.

Members of the executive received their past officers’ for the committees they served on. Thirteen Associate members received service pins which are given for each five years of service completed. Eight Affiliate members received service pins. Fourty-two received volunteer recognition for helping on three or more events over the last year.

The branch was  pleased to present the Volunteer of the Year award to Jane Malkin and Norma Johnston for their faithful service to the branch.

Comrade Gerry Howe was the recipient of the Legionnaire of the Year (the Charles Bugg Award).

Congratulations to all and a big thanks from the branch for your service to the Legion.

WW1 Nursing Sisters

Sherrell Branton Leetooze will be at the Colborne Legion on Thursday May 11th starting at 4pm to provide a presentation on the Nursing Sisters of WW1. Learn about those who cared for our troops ‘over there’.

Meat Draw Changes

Starting May 13th, we’re going to change the format on the meat draws.

The draws will take place at 4pm and 5pm with 5 prizes each hour and a 50/50 draw at 5pm.

Tickets will be $3 for the meat draws and $2 for the 50/50 draw.

Branch Meetings, May 16th

The executive meeting will start at 6:30pm and the General meeting will take place at 7:30pm.

May is elections. The current nominations can be viewed in the clubroom. Nominations will re-open at the election meeting.

If you want your voice heard about the leadership of the branch, you need to show up to vote.
