Thanks to all who collected pop can tabs throughout the year and delivered them to Howard Siddall in time for the annual motorcycle Robbie’s Run “Tab Ride” to the Elora Legion June 1. Several years ago, the Durham Harley Owners Group were invited to participate in the Roberts Run Tab Ride hosted by the Milton Harley Owners Group. The purpose of the ride was to collect enough tabs and contributions to purchase a wheelchair for a member’s nephew who was involved in a very serious car accident.
“In that first year (1993), we were unsuccessful in collecting enough tabs for an electric wheel chair but were able to raise a good portion of the amount needed. Now, in the 16 years that the ride has taken place, over 30,000 pounds of tabs have been collected. As of the end of 2013, over 1,030 wheelchairs have been purchased,” Howard says.
With the help of people around the world, the Elora Legion has taken the tabs received, converting the pure aluminum tabs into cash. The cash then purchases wheelchairs for the disabled. If you would like to help out with this worthy cause, please contact the Colborne Legion. You can start a pop can tab collection at home, office, church, community centre or wherever. Drop the tabs off at the Colborne Legion and they will be delivered to the Elora Legion in time for the motorcycle “Tab Ride” next year.
They rocked the barbecues at the Colborne Legion for folks at the annual Trash ‘N Treasures community-wide yard sale in Colborne Aug. 8. We raised over $1,000 for which we are most grateful! Our volunteers are hard-working, generous people. They make it happen!
