Colborne Santa Claus Parade 7 p.m. Sat., Nov. 27

The evening Santa Claus Parade will be 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27 in Colborne. Note the change in time this year. We’re accomodating the Concert Band of Cobourg who are scurrying all over the place to participate in as many parades as they can. We’re honoured they’ll be skirling our streets!

Kids can visit Santa to convey their Christmas gift suggestion in the gazebo in Victoria Square Park, centre of Colborne, following the parade.

Has the theme for the 2011 Santa Claus Parade been set yet?
If so, can you share this with us?
Will there be entry registration forms on line available?
    Is there an entry fee?
    If so, how much?
Where can the information be found about the parade?

The countdown has started for the annual Legion-Optimist Santa Claus Parade! The Colborne Legion and Optimist Club of Colborne invite you to participate in this traditional community event.

There are many creative folks in our community. Start thinking now about your spectacular float entry in the annual Colborne/Cramahe Legion-Optimist Santa Claus Parade! The theme this year is “Christmas Has No Age Limit”.

This year’s parade will be Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011 at 7 p.m. beginning at the corner of Elgin and King Streets. The parade will take King St. East into downtown Colborne, north on Division,, then west on Church St. dropping Santa off at Victoria Park where he will distribute goodies to all the children post-parade.

This annual event depends on community support and participation.

Prizes are awarded to the best entry in the following categories: Industrial, Commercial, Churches/Schools, Youth Group, Service Club, Family and Walkers.

In addition, there is a prize for the Best Overall Float, and for the float best depicting the theme.

To encourage participation, we have added an additional category of “filler”. This is to provide an opportunity for local businesses, farmers and specialty vehicles to enter their company car or truck, farm vehicle or specialty vehicle. This will make the parade longer and more varied — and it’s an easy way to advertise. We ask only that the vehicle have some sort of Christmas decoration – be it a bow, lights, reindeer ears, etc..

Entry forms are available at the Colborne Legion, McGlennon Insurance, Downey Pharmacy and on-line from Oct. 15, 2011. Completed forms must be returned to the Legion no later than Nov. 24, 2011. The parade committee must have a completed entry form to prepare the list for judging and to assign the actual parade line-up.

Donations to support the parade costs involved will be gratefully received. Cheques can be made out to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 187 and delivered to the Legion or mailed to: Tracey Loveless, Parade Chairman, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 187, P.O. Box 458, Colborne, Ontario, K0K 1S0.

Let’s celebrate our community! We encourage all Colborne/Cramahe businesses, community groups and our neighbours to participate to make this year’s parade bigger and better.

For information, call Tracey Loveless 905.355.3488 or Colborne Legion 905.355.5479.

      Thank you
