The March 2 roast beef dinner will be served 5 to 6:30 p.m. for just $10 per person. That includes homemade soup, mashed potatoes, glazed onions, broccoli, breads and —ta-da!  — bread pudding a-la-Marilyn for desert.

Author and photojournalist Pete Fisher is our Remembrance Day dinner guest speaker Friday, Nov. 11.
This is an evening you won’t want to miss! Pete’s book, “Highway of Heroes, True Patriot Love”, provides the comprehensive story, with photos, of the grassroots phenomena of people gathering on bridges over Hwy. 401 to honour our repatriated Fallen and their families.
The evening will include a large screen photo presentation of photos taken over the past nine years. We also plan to have copies of the book available for purchase that Pete can sign. He welcomes talking on-on-one. Tickets are $12 (no charge for veterans with their Legion membership card, service card or discharge certificate) available soon at the Colborne Legion.

The monthly Fun Pool Tournament welcomes players of all calibers who are paired at random with other entrants. There is a monthly fee of $6 which covers the cost of the lighting and prizes. The ever-popular Wine and Cheese and Silent Auction will be held Sunday, Dec. 5. This is a fun way to pick up unique gifts and stocking stuffers. Please have all donated items in by noon Dec. 1 at the Legion. Bidding opens Thursday, Dec. 2 and ends 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon. There’s something for everyone on display — from the hilarious to the sumptuous.

Santa’s coming to Colborne Saturday, Nov. 27! This year, there’s a time change: the Santa Claus Parade starts at 7 p.m.. The Colborne Legion and Castleton-Cramahe Optimist Club are coordinating the parade.The theme is “A Parade of Trees”.

There is NO CHARGE for floats or entries, but you do have to register by Nov. 25 (financial donations appreciated). Forms are available at the Colborne Legion club room as well as Downey Pharmacy and McGlennon Insurance in downtown Colborne. When you register, you’ll be told where to form up. All entries must be decorated, but here’s the thing: ride in a car that has bows on it, you qualify – a great way to promote your business! Remember: no Santas on your float/entries cuz that purview belongs to the one and only final guy in the parade.

Santa will meet with kids in Victoria Square Park in the gazebo after the parade and then — NEW THIS YEAR! — will join the Festival of Trees celebrations at Colborne Public School. At the school, 20 decorated trees await your inspection, including one sponsored by the Colborne Legion Ladies Auxiliary. The festival, organized by music teacher Chad Morford, is a fundraiser to take the entire Grade 8 class to the Atlantic Band Festival in Halifax. Our mid-month dinner Nov. 19 is a tummy-warming meat loaf dinner, both beef and pork varieties, with roasted potatoes, tomato gravy, peas, squash casserole, soup, fresh bread and — a yuletide preview — Christmas pudding with rum sauce, all for $10 per person serving 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Come one, come all to the progressive euchre tournament being held at Colborne Legion Saturday, September 18. Registration begins at 12 noon!

Here’s your chance to cross your tees and swing with great people.

The 19^th annual Branch 187 Golf Tournament will be held September 19 at the Salt Creek Golf Links. Your $35 entry fee gives you nine holes of golf, access to great prizes and a meal back at the Colborne Legion following play.

Non-golfers and/or family members are welcome to attend the meal after at a nominal fee to help offset costs.

The Labour Day Weekend is just a month away. That means our annual steak and hamburger barbecue is in the works for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, September 4.

A six-ounce steak dinner ($12) or homemade hamburger ($8) dinners include fresh corn on the cob, homemade baked beans, baked potatoes, sour cream and butter, tossed salad with fixings and apple crisp with ice cream for dessert. Come join us for a fresh local seasonal meal.

You’re going to love our annual Fish Fry Friday, August 20! Cooky Marilyn Babcock is preparing basa filets in beer batter with oven-roasted new potatoes, fresh corn on the cob, homemade tartar sauce, tomato salad and coleslaw and lemon wedges. For dessert, it’s Lemon Licious Cake. Tea and coffee also included.

Cost, as always, is just $10 per person serving 5 to 6:30 p.m.

We’d say arrive early but lately everyone has been arriving at 5pm which makes for really cramped seating. We work hard to make sure there is enough food so 5:15 or 5:30 would still be good, most of the time.
