Remembrance Day 2016

What a great day on Friday. The members of Branch 187 turned out in better numbers than recent years to take part in the parade and service at the cenotaph. The Colour Parties of both the Branch and the LA looked great.

There was a great showing at the cenotaph by members of the community attending the service. The sunshine sure didn’t hurt.

A big thank you to all who took part in the parade including; the Air Force City Pipe Band, the members of the 429 Squadron, the Fire Department, Masonic Lodge, the Lions, the cadets and students from Colborne Public School.

Our thanks and respects to Lt.-Col Scott Mutton & Comrade Don Prentice for taking the salute as we passed in review.

A special shoutout to little Jack Barber who stood beside his dad saluting us as we paraded to the cenotaph.

Thank you for all your Support!

2017 Early Bird Campaign Set to Start, Save $5

Time to pay 2017 dues is approaching. The Early Bird Campaign starts on September 1st.

At the Dominion Convention held in June, a motion was passed to raise the per capita both this year and next.

Per Capita is the portion of dues the branch has to send to Command each year. The increases mean our branch dues need to also go up.

The executive has discussed this and feels the dues will rise once, this year, and not next year.

The increase will not take effect until after the General Meeting on September 20th even though the increased payment to Command will start on September 1st.

So, if you wish to save $5 on your 2017 dues, pay before September 20th.

The draw for the prizes in the raffle the tickets have been on sale for will also take place at the fundraiser.

All Proceeds to the Fort McMurray Legion Br. 165

While 90% of the neighbourhood around the Fort McMurray Legion burned during the wildfires in May, the branch and even the flag outside remained standing. There was smoke damage to deal with and the branch is slowly getting re-opened. The branch members are busy providing help and support to the community through donations that are coming to them from across the country.

Come on out Saturday and add your support.
